Symphony in C - Australian Ballet

This all-thrills bill features Symphony in C, George Balanchine’s mile-a-minute tutu ballet, alongside a program of classical party pieces and one-act works by up-and-coming choreographers Alice Topp and Richard House.

Balanchine’s Symphony in C has all the grace and elegance of ballet’s golden age, with modern speed and a touch of Hollywood pizazz. Set to Bizet’s exuberant score, it breezes along to a knock-em-dead finale that crowds the stage with white tutus.

The Romantic Soul II

The Romantic Soul returns in 2017, continuing to feature overlooked corners of the romantic repertoire.

Stewart Kelly & Friends continues to feature overlooked corners of the romantic repertoire. In this recital, they focus on that most romantic of instruments: the clarinet.

Marc Delmas’ Fantasie Italiene is a lyrical showpiece that is inexplicably ignored in the repertoire. It is paired against the romances for cello and piano of Italian composer Giuseppe Martucci and anchored by two trios – the magnificent masterpiece that is Brahms’ late clarinet trio and the 20th-century jazz inspired work of Muczynski. The friends joining Stewart Kelly for this performance are superb clarinet virtuoso Justin Beere and cellist Rebecca Proietto.
