The Art of Articulation: Repeated Note Scales Intermediate (Free Download)

$0.00

Build reliable, even articulation across the full range of the clarinet.

This intermediate set of repeated-note scales is designed to help clarinettists develop greater clarity, coordination, and confidence in their articulation across all registers of the instrument. It’s an exercise I return to regularly myself to iron out the cobwebs, as it quickly reveals how well the tongue, air, and fingers are really working together — especially as you move through the break and into the upper register.

At this level, the focus isn’t on speed, but on consistency. If you find it difficult to maintain a good quality staccato, try playing the scale in a more tenuto style first. This helps ensure the air remains active and well supported as you work your way up the scale.

These exercises encourage you to listen closely, maintain a steady airstream, and gradually build the physical endurance needed to keep articulation clear and controlled as phrases lengthen and registers change. The tempo ranges are intentionally moderate, allowing you to establish good habits without unnecessary tension.

This resource focuses on:

  • Establishing clean, even repeated-note articulation

  • Building endurance and control across all registers

  • Developing coordination between air, tongue, and fingers

  • Maintaining tonal consistency without tension

Includes:
• Printable PDF
• Repeated-note scale studies in major keys
• Clear tempo guidance for developing players
• Ideal for daily technical practice
• Suitable for intermediate clarinettists
